Beta draft. This notice describes how the site is built today. It is being reviewed, including for the Children’s Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA), and will be updated before the public beta opens.
What we collect from parents
- Your email address, first and last name, and password (stored as a secure hash).
- Your school district, or that you use cyber school or homeschool, plus city, state and ZIP code. We ask so we understand which communities use the beta and what to build next. We do not use it to claim curriculum alignment.
- Your confirmations of guardian status, terms and this notice, an optional marketing email choice, and your parental consent status.
- Lesson requests you send.
What we collect about students
Only after parental consent: a nickname, grade, optional preset avatar, display and comfort preferences, and practice activity (which questions were answered, first tries, retries, hints and results). We do not ask for a child’s email, surname, photo, birth date or school identification number, and there are no public profiles. In student mode, children cannot type free-text notes into reports.
How it is used
- To run the family account, student study spaces and the parent view.
- To fix confusing questions and plan new activities.
- We do not sell personal information, show ads, or use third-party advertising trackers. We do not send child information to artificial intelligence (AI) tools.
Your choices
- Download all of your family’s data from Account settings.
- Edit, archive or permanently delete any student profile.
- Delete your whole account and all student data from Account settings.
- Revoke parental consent by contacting us; student mode and practice saving stop for your family.
How long we keep data
- Student practice history: until you delete the student or your account.
- Student-mode device sessions: deleted 30 days after they end.
- Unconfirmed accounts: deleted after 30 days.
- Closed lesson requests and question reports: deleted after two years.
- Staff access logs (no personal details): one year.
